How do I self-declare an absence (undergraduate students)?

For undergraduate students only. Graduate students, visit your self-declared absences instructions.

  1. Sign in to Quest.
  2. Select the Personal Information tile.

  3. Select the Student Absence Declaration link on the left.

  4. Read the overview of available absence types and select the Next button.
  5. Choose the type of absence you would like to declare.
    1. Short-term absence
    2. COVID-19-related absence
    3. Religious or creed absence
    4. Other absences

Short-term absence

For more information, review frequently asked questions about short-term absences.

  1. Read the self-declared short-term absence details on the page.
  2. For Absence Category, select Short-term absence from the pull-down menu.
    Note: If you do not see form fields, you have already met your maximum submissions for the current academic term.

  3. Select the Start Date and the Return to Study Date for the absence. You will receive a pop-up error message if:
    • You select a date during the Final Examination Period.
    • You select a date for a future academic term.
    • Your Return to Study Date is more than two (2) days from the chosen Start Date.
  4. Select the Submit button.
  5. You will see a confirmation message upon submission, as well as receive a confirmation email to your campus email account.

COVID-19-related absence

  1. Read the COVID-19-related absence details on the page.
  2. For Absence Category, select COVID-19-related absence.

  3. Select the Start Date and Return to Study Date for the absence.
  4. Select the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
  5. You will see a confirmation message upon submission, as well as receive a confirmation email to your campus email account.

Religious or creed-related absence

  1. Read the absence declaration information on the page.
  2. In the Reason for Absence text box, provide the name of the religious observance (maximum of 100 characters).

  3. Select the Start Date and Return to Class Date for the absence.
  4. Select the Submit button as the bottom of the page.
  5. You will see a confirmation message upon submission, as well as receive a confirmation email to your campus email account.

Other absences

  1. Read the information on the page to find out your next steps.
  2. Select Return to go back to the absence choices.
