SEED welcomes two new faculty members

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

We are delighted to welcome two new faculty members to the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development - Dr. Heather Hall and Dr. Komal Habib. Dr. Neil Craik speaks on behalf of SEED when expressing the benefit of having Dr. Heather Hall and Dr. Komal Habib in our midst. "Both individuals are emerging leaders in their field and will add considerable depth to our existing expertise in economic development and innovation, and industrial ecology, respectively. Our students will benefit from an increased knowledge in these fields, and we hope to provide Heather and Komal with the support they need to further advance their careers and research."

Dr. Heather Hall

I am particularly drawn to the core values of SEED. More specifically, the commitment to research that is solutions orientated and evidence-based, the value placed on integration across disciplines, the responsibility to demonstrate leadership, and the focus on community engagement, all of which are vital to my research.

Headshot - Heather Hall
Dr. Heather Hall (BA, MA, PhD) joins us from the International Centre for Northern Governance and Development at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was a postdoctoral fellow researching the planning and development in peripheral resource regions.

Dr. Hall’s research focuses on local and regional policies that can improve social, economic and environmental resilience. She is a co-investigator with the On the Move partnership, which examines Canadians who are travelling long distances from their permanent residence due to their work.

Her research has been recognized by the Canadian Association Geographer’s Ontario division (CAGONT), the Innovation Systems Research Network (ISRN), and the Regional Studies Association.

Dr. Komal Habib

I strongly believe that my research and teaching expertise compliments the SEED’s mission of integrating business and development activities to ensure a sustainable world in the future.
