This year the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development will be represented by Professor Steven Young at the MDP Global Summit, the annual meeting of members of the Global Association of Master of Development Practice (MDP) programs. The MDP is an interdisciplinary graduate degree program that prepares students to better identify and address the challenges of sustainable development.

SUSM Masters Students; Noor-ur-Rahman Shaikh and Daniel Francisco Gonzalez, the Canadian winners of the 2019 CEC Youth Innovation Challenge advance forward to present their projects in Mexico City

Two of the School of Environment, Enterprise and Business SUSM Master's students; Noor-ur-Rahman Shaikh (supervisor: Professor Steve Young) and Daniel Francisco Gonzalez (supervisor: Professor Goretty Dias) are the 2019 national winners of the Comission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) Youth Innovation Challenge. Noor-ur-Rahman and Daniel will travel to Mexico City this month to present their project  "IXIM - Using your waste to create change!"  The project involved the creation of a 100% biodegradable and sustainable material alternative to bricks, allowing us to reinvision the "framework" of walls. 

SEED is very happy to have a newcomer join the team! Beth Eden is SDSN Canada’s new Youth Network Coordinator for the 2019-2020 academic year.

In this position, Beth will focus on engaging students at SDSN Canada member campuses to take action and pioneer solutions that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

For International Development students at the University of Waterloo and St. Paul’s University-College, the final Capstone presentation is a culmination of four years of study, and an intensive two-term placement with the World University Service of Canada, and a local partner organizations in Bolivia, Ghana, Malawi, Nepal, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Vietnam.

SEED takes part in UWaterloo's #EarthMonth for a lunch hour clean-up!

A team of SEED faculty and staff participated in a campus "20 minute makeover" organized by the UW Sustainability office. Just one simple way to help keep waste out of our environment and to be disposed of properly.

Last night the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED) hosted its annual Environment and Business (EB) final capstone project showcase. This event is the culmination of ENBUS 402A and B instructed by Professors Dan Murray and Goretty Dias. The two courses span eight months and give students the chance to apply the knowledge and skills they gain in the classroom to a meaningful project for the business community. Teams of four to five students are matched with organizations to work on projects that integrate and apply the concepts of business and sustainability. 

The following two courses are available next semester, and have been updated:

• ENBUS 308: Sustainability Standards/Auditing
• ENBUS 409: Circular Economy

Last Wednesday at the EDCO 2019 annual conference, Paul received the President's Award in recognition of his contribution to graduate studies and professional training.

What FUN! The Faculty of Environment's Dean Jean, threw a surprise pop up party for the upcoming 50th anniversary this morning in the atrium of EV3. Students from the Faculty of Environment  were treated to delicious homemade cupcakes baked by Bruce Frayne, the director of SEED and owner and baker from Black Island Bakery. Are there more surprises to come??

 

Professor Komal Habib will be offering an exciting new course "Circular Economy" in the Spring term. This course has been designed to equip students with the knowledge and expertise required to design and implement a circular economy initiative and monitor its progress through circularity indicators. The course will guide students in assessing the business value of circular economy cases.
