BEYOND THE CLASSROOM: A letter to my best friend

Hey Rachel!

Just wanted to check in since it’s been a while. How are you? How’s Cali? I hope you’re soaking up enough sun for both of us.

Do you remember DECA in high school? Well, guess who went back to provincials!! AFM really pulled through for me. Being a panelist is the sickest feeling ever and no one will change my mind (okay, maybe being a judge would’ve been cooler but that’s a 3A thing). I felt like such a boss with a big leadership role. It was for that LDA Conference Arjun and Soroush did back in grade 11, and just being back at the Sheraton brought back all the memories.

It was so fun! Not only did I see Hayley and Julia (my DECA babies are all grown up!), but I made the greatest connections with new people. Can you even picture me half a year ago speaking to a stranger on my own volition? I can’t believe I’ve grown this much. I met this cool CPA lady, and I also think I’m now friends with this fourth year, and so my life goals have been accomplished.

My resume looks a little thicker now too. Being in the position to teach and lead others is such a flex. Just speaking in front of all these high school kids was an absolute experience. I also can’t help but feel more confident in everyday life now. If I can stand up in front of hundreds of kids and not stutter, then I can speak eloquently to people picking a fight. Gotta thank AFM amirite.

I wish you were here, and that you could’ve experienced this with me. I hope life is good over there. I miss you. I can’t wait to see you.

Love,

Chi
