Have you ever wondered what it is like being a School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) student at the University of Waterloo? Well, you have come to the right place.

As a SAF student, I have access to a variety of opportunities to hone my interpersonal communication skills. In addition to attending my regular lectures, I can also apply for a range of positions with different clubs, which is a privilege that not all programs offer. Assuming leadership roles accomplishes much more than just adding another line to your resume, it supports your ability to present the transferrable abilities that companies appreciate, provides talking topics for interviews, and allows you to network!

A notable position that I obtained at SAF is that of SOAP Ambassador. Being a SOAP Ambassador provides me with opportunities to explain the courses and future career pathways of SAF programs to prospective students by volunteering at events such as Fall Open House (FOH). These events provide a valuable experience for both prospective students to gain deeper understanding of the SAF programs, and allow me to sharpen my communication skills by engaging in insightful conversations.

One finding about prospective students and their families that I have found interesting is that most of them are attracted by the numerous cafes on campus, especially the one with “The best soup on campus”- the Liquid Assets Café in the SAF building. Prospective students’ excitement and curiosity to learn more about SAF programs is what motivates me to become a better SOAP Ambassador.
