This past August 2018, Professor Steve Balaban and his students in the AFM 334, formerly known as AFM 415, International Study Course learned more about the practicalities of international accounting and finance in Hong Kong. Check out what some of the students had to say about their experience with this course.

What did you learn from this course that you didn't expect beforehand?

There are so many different sectors in finance and most students are unaware of their options. Through meetings and discussions with industry professionals, I gained a better understanding of which ones are most appealing to me.
Brendan mick, 3A Math/CPA

Do you have a favourite memory/highlight from your experience?

My favourite memory from this experience was touring the Hong Kong natural history museum we visited on the weekend. This was a definite highlight of the trip as it was an opportunity to bond with my peers while simultaneously being immersed into the culture and history of Hong Kong.
JOSH KING, 3A, Math/CPA

What advice do you have for students who are considering applying?

This course was a great opportunity to get connected with international issues, while creating unforgettable memories with extraordinary people through travelling!
Angela Yan, 3A, AFM

5 reasons you are grateful for your International Study Trip opportunity

This course is a rare opportunity to be able to get the perspectives about current issues, financial issues and world issues from locally-based people in all levels of positions from all kinds of organizations with varying backgrounds and experiences.
CINDY LIU, 4B, AFM

What do you want students to know before going international?

Go in with an open mindset! What makes the international study course so unique is that you never know what experiences and opportunities will come up. Although you may have a planned itinerary, many activities will come up spontaneously. As such, bringing an open-minded way of thinking will definitely help you appreciate what’s going on much more.
Mitchell ho, 3A, AFM
