Reaching out and getting involved in school activities

It's pretty clear what we in the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) Outreach & Ambassador Program (SOAP) and all of the SAF mentors would recommend to incoming students: get involved with the School’s activities! For example, complete Waterloo Ready, participate in the orientation, so on and so forth. What I want to share as a first-year Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) student is what Waterloo Ready and all the other preparation activities unintentionally taught me and also how it has benefited me.

After participating in Waterloo Ready, I learned what to expect in my first year and the differences between high school learning and university life. This support can be vital for your transition to the next chapter of your life. Additionally, throughout my time so far at the University of Waterloo, I’ve learned that the school’s support doesn’t stop during the summer. I’ve already spoken to my academic advisor, Peer Support Learning Champion (PSLC) and professors throughout my time here. It's been super easy! Waterloo Ready sets the precedent that you’ll easily find support here and will not have any issues transitioning to practical life as a university student.

Though the first two months here were certainly an adjustment for me, Waterloo Ready helped me prepare mentally and taught me that there is always support at SAF; all you have to do is ask!
