Our team was interested in trying something new, stepping into the world of finance, and were drawn to an event that raised money for healthcare. We were a bit worried since we came from accounting-focused career paths, but we were all excited to explore and learn more.

Setting yourself up to Excel

In early December, I had the chance to participate in the finals for the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge hosted by the University of Arizona, and it’s something I encourage every student to sign up for next year. It served as a great chance to hone my Excel skills, network with top financial modelers in university and abroad, not to mention I was able to escape the snow for a few days

Welcome to the Winter 2023 International Study Trip! This term, our class is headed to Singapore for an unforgettable experience. For planning, our class was split into four teams, corporate relations, meals and logistics, management, and marketing and culture. We’re the marketing and culture team, and we’re so excited to have you here with us as we embark on this journey!

Hi all! We are the meal and logstics team for the Winter 2023 International Study Trip. Our team consists of Coco, Irene, Melissa, and Samantha. As part of the meal and logistics team, our primary objective is to ensure that the trip operates smoothly and safely as we travel across Singapore. Our roles can be grouped into two core sections: (1) organize the trip schedule (2) lead the students throughout Singapore once we arrive!

1. What’s your favourite part about being on the meals and logistics team?

You know that feeling you get when you’re about to embark on a new journey and you’re super nervous? That voice in the back of your head is telling you that something will go wrong? When it came to my first day of orientation at the University of Waterloo, I decided to stop listening to it.

As some students will be starting their first co-op term soon, I wanted to share important lessons that I have learned over the course of my past co-op terms as an Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) student; to maximize your impact and your personal development.

This summer was my first time experiencing university in person. Along with the adjustment period, I feel like I learned a lot about student life, how to study effectively, and the importance of balance.

Approaching networking as an introvert

Meeting UWaterloo alumni to share ideas and experiences

Hi there! I’m Colette, a second-year student in the Sustainability and Financial Management Program. In a few days, I will be meeting some SAF alumni through the Fellowship Program Café and will have the opportunity to speak to them about their experience in the program, how it’s helped them in their careers, and more.

In all honestly, I used to dislike case competitions. Competing was stressful and I lost several times, however, despite my suboptimal experiences in the past, I found a turning point this year with the STRIVE Conference case competition, which is among Ontario’s largest accounting-focused conferences.
