Diversity and inclusion 2022 year in review

The year 2022 meant a migration back to in-person for our students as well as an opportunity to connect with thought leaders, students, alums and friends of the SAF.

Reflecting on the year past, the stories we’ve told of the successes of our alums, accomplishments of our thought leaders, and achievements of our students, have been a celebration of their leadership, adaptability, and courage. Each of the stories told are an inspiration and demonstration of the resiliency of human nature and what can be done when you’re given the right tools, opportunities, and education to meet and surpass uncertainties and challenges head-on.

I invite you to peruse the 2022 SAF Story Series to find insight and your inspiration to make a positive impact, regardless of how small or big, for yourself, your team, and your organization.

Diversity and nurturing talent are paramount and a passion for alum, Jonathan Yu (Macc '07, CPA)

It doesn’t take long to realize that for alum, Jonathan Yu (MAcc ’07, CPA), people and talent are the most important assets for his work with RBC. The innovative nature and authentic work in equity, diversity and inclusion at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) have made the last 12 years for Yu exciting and fresh. Yu returned to the Waterloo campus to chat with SAF about his career path and passion for helping RBC further its diversity and inclusion goals.

Celebrating alumni achievements on international women's day

To commemorate this powerful day, the School of Accounting and Finance welcomed alums Winnie Shi (MAcc ’96), Project Director, Iona Island WWTP (previously:co-president and CFO of InTransit BC), and Christine Wiedman (MAcc ’88, PhD Cornell), SAF professor of financial accounting for a fireside chat. These two successful leaders continue to strive towards advancing gender equity through their initiatives and research.
