Chief Executive Officer & Senior Portfolio Manager

Krishna Murali
Krishna Murali is a fourth year Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy student, excited for his last four months at UW. Krishna has completed co-op terms at EY, Deutsche Bank and CPPIB. He will be starting full-time with Goldman Sachs as an Investment Banking Analyst next year. Outside of the fund, Krishna co-headed the hEDGE Finance Conference, which is a Canada wide undergraduate capital markets conference and represents Waterloo as part of the varsity squash team. Krishna's hobbies include baseball, ping-pong, and making his friends laugh. 

Chief Investment Officer & Senior Portfolio Manager

Louis Hong
Louis Hong is a fourth year student in the Mathematics and Chartered Accountancy program. He currently serves as the Chief Investment Officer for the Fund, and has previously served as both an analyst and portfolio manager. During his co-op work terms, Louis has worked as a quantitative analyst in Manulife's Investment division, an analyst at Toronto private equity firm Altas Partners, and as a staff accountant at KPMG. In his spare time, Louis enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, board games, and poker.

Senior Portfolio Manager

Andrew Xue
Andrew Xue is a fourth year Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy student with a finance specialization. He has previously worked in Credit Trading at CIBC World Markets, Direct Investing at Teachers' Private Capital, Global Prime Finance at Deutsche Bank, and Controllers at Manulife. Outside school, he enjoys playing tennis and traveling to Ottawa.

 Junior Portfolio Managers

Michael Blake
Michael Blake is a fourth year Accounting and Financial Management student. He is entering his third term with the fund as a Junior Portfolio Manager. Michael has spent his two co-op work terms at Deloitte LLP where he worked in both the tax and audit groups. He is an active follower of the stock market and is pursuing a career in capital markets after he attains both the CPA-CA and CFA designations.  Outside of finance, Michael enjoys playing hockey and is an avid reader.

Jeffrey WongJeffrey Wong, studying in the AFM program has reached his final undergraduate term.  His co-op experiences have been in Assurance with Ernst and Young. While a student, Jeffrey held the role of research assistant and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Accounting and Finance Students Association.  In the fall term he will be a junior portfolio manager.  His hobbies are playing sports like badminton and volleyball, and recently learning about sports analytics.

Henry Yu
Henry Yu is a third year student in the Accounting and Financial Management Program.

During his co-op terms, he has worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers as an audit associate. He is currently pursuing a CPA, CFA as well as the CBV designations.

Henry enjoyed competing in a team in the National Investment Banking Competition at the University of British Columbia and in the Anish Chopra Investment Research Challenge at the University of Waterloo.  Aside from competitions, Henry is a food enthusiast.

Senior Analysts

Jason Chen
Jason Chen is in his third year of pursuing an Accounting and Financial Management undergraduate degree. This will be his second term with the Fund as a Senior Analyst, having previously covered the Consumer Discretionary sector. Jason spent his previous co-op term at KPMG LLP as a Staff Accountant, spending two months in the firm's audit practice and two months in the tax practice. He has basic experience in Java and C++ programming languages, as well as building financial models. Jason hopes to pursue his CPA and CFA designations in the future, and believes a second term with the Fund will refine his technical and soft skills, as well as further develop his career goals. In his spare time, Jason enjoys backpacking, singing and hip-hop dancing.  

Sophia Chen
Sophia Chen is in her 3A term of the Accounting and Financial Management program. During past terms, Sophia worked at Flabbi & Associates, Chartered Accountants and she also held a summer position at IBM Canada in Business Operations. Additionally, Sophia has developed and applied her passion for finance through competing in the Waterloo Investment Research Challenge. Sophia intends to pursue both her CPA, CA and CFA designations. Previously, Sophia also had the opportunity to mentor first-year students as a Peer Leader with UW Residences. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano, listening to music, and writing.   Sophia is excited to return to the team as a Senior Analyst, covering the healthcare sector.

Hasanain Habib-Nayany
Hasanain Habib-Nayany is currently in his third year in the Accounting and Financial Management program. He is a senior analyst covering Industrials, a sector that he covered last term as well as a junior analyst. He has previously worked at Ernst & Young during his co-op term performing audits in the firm’s Financial Services Organization group. It is Hasanain’s second time with the Fund, and he is looking forward to using the skills developed within his co-op term and from the finance classes he has taken towards the performance of the fund. Along with the undergraduate degree, he plans to pursue the CFA and CPA designations and is taking additional courses towards a Minor in Economics to fuel his interest in international finance and macroeconomics. He enjoys his free time playing competitive tennis, and is very interested in the entrepreneurial spirit present at the University of Waterloo.

Taha Shayeq
Taha Shayeq is in the third year of his undergraduate degree, studying Accounting and Financial Management. This is Taha’s second term with the Fund and he joins as a senior analyst covering the Materials sector. Besides his work for the Fund, Taha also serves as a campus representative for Wallstreet Oasis. Taha has previously completed summer internships at Dubai Islamic Bank, Deloitte Pakistan and spent his most recent co-op term working as an analyst for Ontario’s Ministry of Infrastructure. In his free time Taha enjoys value investing, traveling and playing squash. 

Mobeen Malik
Mobeen Malik is in the third year of his undergraduate degree, studying Accounting and Financial Management. This is his second year on the fund.

In his previous work term, Mobeen worked as a Business Analyst at Ford Motor Company of Canada. Mobeen is highly involved in extracurricular activities, including his role as KW Operations Manager for C3 Inspire and his role as Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo. With a strong interest for a career in capital markets, Mobeen aspires to attain his CFA designation.

In his spare time, Mobeen loves watching movies, spending time with friends and family and travelling.

Camille Tan
Camille Tan is a fourth year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. Camille recently completed her final work term at Deutsche Bank where she developed a deeper understanding of the financial markets in New York and gained a global perspective of the industry. Prior to this, she also worked at CPP Investment Board and in several departments of Scotiabank. She has completed the Canadian Securities Course and is pursuing her CFA designation.  On top of her passion for following the financial markets, she also has a passion for entrepreneurship and was the Co-president of UW Entrepreneurship Society for several terms – the largest student-run entrepreneurial organization on campus. In her spare time, a few things she enjoys to do apart from reading are English riding, Nordic skiing and traveling. 

Junior Analysts

Karan Balachandar
Karan Balachandar is a third year Accounting and Financial Management student. He completed his past co-op term at Deloitte in Assurance and Advisory practice within the Financial Institutions Group, and is going back in the Winter. This is his first year on the fund as a Junior Analyst.  He is currently pursuing a CPA, CA as well as the CFA designation.  Outside of finance, his interests also include playing tennis, running and watching TV.

Summer Zhang

Summer Zhang is a fourth year student in the Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy program. She has completed two work terms at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, one with Investment IT and most recently with Private Capital. Summer is looking to pursue the CFA and CPA designations.  This is her first year in the Fund and she is excited to contribute as a Junior Analyst. In her spare time, Summer enjoys graphic designing and reading.

Kevin Fung
Kevin Fung is a third year student in the Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy program. He completed his past work term at Pricewaterhousecoopers LLP in the Asset Management Industry, within the Audit and Assurance Group. This is his first year on the Fund as a Junior Analyst and he hopes to expand his knowledge of equity research and the financial markets through this opportunity.   Kevin is currently pursuing his CPA, CA designation and has a growing intention to pursue the CFA designation as well. In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton, watching movies, and travelling. 

Mohtasim Hakim
Mohtasim Hakim is in the third year of his undergraduate degree, studying Accounting and Financial Management. This is Mohtasim's first year with the fund and he joins as a junior analyst and is excited to start attaining practical experience in finance at the fund. Mohtasim has previously completed a co-op term as a financial officer at the Ministry of Finance. He is currently pursuing a CPA/CA as well as a CFA designation. His hobbies include playing soccer, reading, and playing video games.

Christopher Chan
Christopher Chan is a third year Accounting and Financial Management student with a specialization in finance. This is his first year on the fund and, as a Junior Analyst, he will be covering the Industrial sector.

Chris spent his co-op term at Wescast Industries Inc. as a Financial Support Analyst where he managed FX hedges. He aspires to attain a CFA designation and has been participating in numerous finance competitions. Outside of finance, Chris loves high-end watches and enjoys skiing and playing badminton."

Jonathan Chan
Jonathan Chan is a fourth year Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy (Finance Specialization, Statistics Minor) student at the University of Waterloo. He has also studied finance abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in London, UK and has completed his CFA Level 1 examination. Jonathan has completed four co-op terms at Deloitte and will be returning to the firm as a Senior in the Financial Services group upon graduation. Outside of class, he is passionate about student government, having served on the Board of Directors of the University of Waterloo Accounting and Finance Student Association. In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys music and playing the piano.

Adnan Khan
Adnan Khan is a third year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. He is joining the Fund as a Junior Analyst. He completed his most recent co-op term as a Staff Accountant at Deloitte in Assurance & Advisory (Financial Services). Prior to that, he gained experience as a Finance Intern at Aviva Canada in Regulatory Capital & Investment Compliance.

Since an early stage in his life, Adnan developed a passion for working with children. He has been volunteering as a Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past 4 years. He also spends time playing basketball, soccer, and badminton.

Daniel Wu
Daniel Wu is currently a third year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. During his first co-op term, he worked as a consultant for at a tax consulting firm called Stratos Solutions. Daniel will be joining the fund as a junior analyst and is very interested in pursuing a career in capital markets as well as the CFA designation.  In his spare time, Daniel enjoys playing basketball and the piano.

Andy Lu
Andy Lu is a third year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program with a keen interest in finance. This is Andy's first term with the fund and will be joining as a junior analyst covering the Financial sector. Andy has completed his first co-op term with PricewaterhouseCoopers as an Audit and Assurance Associate working in the Financial Services industry. Andy intends on pursuing both his CPA, CA as well as CFA designations in the future. In his spare time, Andy enjoys a good game of Ultimate Frisbee and going to the gym.

Yushu Yang
Yushu Yang is entering her fourth year as a student in the Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy program. In the past co-op terms, she has worked as a Staff Accountant in the KPMG Audit Practice, Financial Institutions and Real Estate sector, focusing on insurance companies and funds. Currently pursuing CPA/CA and CFA designations, Yushu is excited to join the fund for the first time as a Junior Analyst to learn more about finance from industry professionals and colleagues.  Other than finance-related activities, she is involved with the university orchestra and enjoys music and travelling.

Yidi Xiong
Yidi Xiong is a third year Mathematics and Chartered Professional Accountancy student currently pursuing both the CPA, CA and the CFA designation. For her previous co-op term, Yidi has worked as an associate for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. This is Yidi's first term on the fund and she is excited to learn more as a junior analyst. Outside of school, Yidi enjoys cooking, graphic design, and playing the guitar.

Daniel Zhang
Daniel Zhang is a 3rd year Biotech/CPA student joining the Fund for the first-time this Fall. His most recent co-op was with KPMG LLP in the Financial Institutions audit practice; going forward, he is keenly interested in pursuing his CFA designation and a career in capital markets. Around the school, Daniel has previously been involved as a Director on hEDGE Finance Conference, and currently sits on the Board of DECA U Ontario. Daniel’s strange interests include listening to movie scores, competitive card-playing, and genomic neuroscience research.

Salman Ahmed
Salman Ahmed is a 4th year Accounting and Financial Management student with a strong interest in finance. This will be Salman’s first term on the fund, and he is excited to cover the materials sector as a junior analyst. He has previously worked for Deloitte as an Analyst and then for General Electric as a Chartered Accounting Intern. In the future, Salman is looking to expand his knowledge of finance by pursuing the CFA charter and ultimately securing a full time job in the financial services industry. Outside of class, Salman enjoys volunteering, playing basketball and hanging out with friends.

Thanoozan Thangaraja
Thanoozan Thangaraja is a third year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. In his previous co-op term, he worked at Ernst & Young in the Tax practice within the newly developed Passive Foreign Investment Companies (PFIC) project and will be heading back to Ernst & Young for the winter 2015 co-op term. This is his first term in The Fund and I am excited for the opportunity to contribute as a Junior Analyst. Thanoozan’s interest in finance has only grown since the start of university and he looks forward to pursuing both a CPA and CFA designations. Away from school, he enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and hockey while keeping up with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors.
