Achim Kempf

Achim is a Professor of Mathematical Physics in the Department of Applied Mathematics while also cross-appointed to the Department of Physics. His field of research is the Physics of Information, with applications, for example, to quantum machine learning and quantum gravity. Achim has been awarded a Canada Research Chair and a University Research Chair.  He is an associate member of the Institute for Quantum Computing, a member of the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute, a member of the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics and an affiliated member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.  Achim chaired the International Society for Relativistic Quantum Information 2013-2018, and currently serves the society as a councilor. Before coming to Waterloo, Achim was a Junior Research Fellow at Cambridge University.  He received his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees at the Universities of Heidelberg and Munich respectively.
