Meeting monthly on Monday afternoons, 1:30–2:30, Work-in-Progress Seminar (WIPS) is an informal occasion for Stratford faculty to present the multidisciplinary work occupying our minds in a friendly atmosphere. All are welcome!

Speaker & Subject: Ray Drainville, "Ex nugis seria: The Internet Meme as Contemporary Emblem"

Abstract: We think of Internet memes as a recent phenomenon. In reality, there are several striking parallels to Renaissance emblems, such as familiar visual content, humour, in-group knowledge, and the exploitation of new media formats.
