Waste Week 2021: Rethinking Waste

Did you know that waste contributes to climate change? The decomposition of organics, packaging and other garbage in landfills produces a significant amount of methane, which is a greenhouse gas 28 times for potent than carbon dioxide. Additionally, non-organic material and the production of resources is a significant source of emissions which end up as waste.

The Sustainability Office invites every student in Ontario to the Youth In Action Event: Opportunities in Sustainability!

Students across Ontario are welcome to join a networking and storytelling event that highlight youth action in sustainability and showcase various career and volunteer opportunities to join. Participating Universities and Colleges include the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph and University of Guelph Humber. Featured organizations include: Apathy is Boring, World Wildlife Fund Canada, Youth Challenge International, ReImagine 17, and more!

On April 27, join Professor Sarah Burch as she speaks with climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, who The New York Times called “one of the nation's most effective communicators on climate change.” They’ll discuss strategies for scaling up individual and collective climate action, and how to navigate difficult conversations about our changing planet. They’ll also address your most pressing questions and weigh in on what we’re all wondering – is there hope?
