Achieving a carbon neutral world seems like a daunting task – but companies like Sweat Free Apparel are bringing us one step closer to carbon neutrality through the creation of carbon neutral products, like face masks. Even better, they are doing it close to home – right here in Waterloo, Ontario!

When COVID-19 struck, Waterloo Pharmacy’s Undergraduate Affairs team dramatically shifted how they offer admissions interviews. The interviews, typically conducted in person with hundreds of interviewers and prospective students, were moved entirely online.

During the week of October 15-19, the University of Waterloo celebrated Zero Waste Week, with support from the Sustainability Office and Plant Operations to bring challenges and activities to employees and students across campus. 

The University of Waterloo's Food Services team is excited to launch the campus' first restaurant dedicated solely to vegan and vegetarian food choices.

On Thursday evening, the University of Waterloo was honoured to receive the "Breakthrough ‎Award" from Sustainable Waterloo Region for its accomplishments in 2017. 

On March 24, 2018, WWF hosted the first Designing Change for a Living Planet 2018 Hackathon at their Toronto headquarters, bringing together diverse student teams from 12 campuses across Ontario. The University of Waterloo team included students from Environment, Resources and Sustainability (ERS), Health Studies and Mathematical Physics.

During the Week of October 16^th – October 20^th, the University of Waterloo partnered with the Sustainability Office and participated in its first ever Zero Waste Week as part of the national Waste Reduction Week campaign.

On Wednesday, June 21^st the Sustainability Office hosted Bike Day in the Arts Quad to celebrate those who cycle to campus and promote sustainable transportation modes.

On Thursday, April 20^th, the Sustainability Office and Climate Action Waterloo Region hosted two high school groups – Resurrection and St. David’s - from the WCDSB for the Energize: Sustainable City Challenge. The day was filled with discussion, idea-generation, and problem-solving to showcase the students’ vision for a sustainable Waterloo Region!

On April 18^th, the University of Waterloo and the Kitchener Public Library, in association with Power Shift Waterloo Region, hosted its Public Lecture: Transforming Energy in Waterloo Region. There were over 140 people who filled up the auditorium to hear what the future holds for sustainability and energy in the Region.
