Can I take a minor?

Students may pursue a minor in any faculty. However, it is uncommon for Engineering students to pursue a minor since it requires significant overloading. To declare a minor, to complete a Plan Modification Form (PDF) and discuss the courses required for the minor with an Undergraduate Advisor in the program where you wish to pursue the minor.

Refer to the Undergraduate Calendar for information on Minors, Options, Diplomas, Certificates.

Note: It is acceptable to postpone graduation in order to complete minor requirements

Double and triple counting

Courses can be counted toward a maximum of two credentials (i.e., major, minor, option, or diploma). This practice is referred to as "double counting". For example, if you pursue the Psychology Minor, you may count a PSYCH course as a complementary studies elective (CSE) and toward the minor.

The only exception for triple counting is for the completion of a specialization. A student may count a single course toward two different credentials and a specialization. Refer to Counting of Courses for more information.

Students must submit a plan outlining courses that they will count toward their engineering degree and any credentials to their Academic Advisor.

The rules described on this page cannot be overruled by the Faculty of Engineering or any department.
