Dr. Alexander Wong, Professor of Systems Design Engineering and Canada Research Chair offered his expertise on artificial intelligence to a Canadian government report entitled, "A Canadian Perspective on Responsible AI". The report aims to provide guidelines and principles on responsible AI.

Wong provided insight into the concept of explainability, which is the interpretation of how AI models reach a conclusion. There is increasing interest in explainability to protect against bias and discrimination.

"One of the key things that explainability enables is ensuring that the right decision is being made for the right reason," said Wong.
