The UW SYDE Community Honours Professor Igor Ivkovic

Many many students, faculty and staff made a beautiful Memorial Video for Professor Igor Ivkovic which was enjoyed live by nearly 600 people on March 31, 2021.  The video was so fitting a tribute to Igor’s generous roles in our community and in all of our lives.  He will be greatly missed.  The video can still be watched at the following link:

Celebration of a Great Teacher's Life: Memorial for Prof. Igor Ivkovic

In the video, SYDE announced several honours for Professor Ivkovic.  First, Igor received one of the University of Waterloo’s Distinguished Teaching Awards for 2021.  Many students in SYDE, BME and MTE worked so hard for this.  In addition, the Engineering Society General Council recently renamed the Teaching Excellence Award to the Igor Ivkovic Teaching Excellence Award.  

In the memorial tribute video the Systems Design Engineering Department also declared that every year forward in the fourth month on the second day (4-2) it would be the Igor Acts of Kindness Day.  That is tomorrow!  This April 2nd, we welcome you to share your acts of kindness on Twitter with #4/2Igorkindness 

The final tribute is a tribute painting (pictured here) which hangs now in E7 on the wall outside Igor’s office.  This was painted by SYDE student Jenny Xia.
