Repeating a Term (FLR)

What happens if I have to repeat an academic term?

While repeating a term due to a negative Academic Standing (Required to Repeat Term), a student shall be excused from repeating individual courses in which a grade of 70% or better has been achieved. If this occurs, the student must still take a full course load in the repeat term by taking another course such as a CSE.

Students repeating a term must be Promoted; that is, achieve an average of 60% or better with no course grades below 50%. Otherwise, they will be Required to Withdraw from Engineering.

When you are Required to Repeat a Term, the term immediately following is your work term, and then the term following your work term you have the option of taking a non degree term or sitting out for a term. During this time you cannot take any future courses (core). You may take courses to clear previously failed courses, towards options, minors or electives.

In order to take a non degree term you must complete a Plan Modification Form. If you take one or two courses you would be considered a part time student, if you take three or more courses you would be considered a full time student.

Please note that you can only fail a term twice as your degree must be completed in a maximum of 10 academic terms. This means that if a student fails a term for a third time they would be Required to Withdraw from Engineering.

If the student feels that they had extenuating circumstances surrounding a failed term they may wish to petition to be promoted to the next term or to repeat the term without penalty. An appointment should be made with Associate Undergraduate Chair (through the Undergraduate Coordinator) to discuss this possibility.
