The Waterloo forming and crash research was on display at the Numisheet 2022 conference in Toronto. This conference is a major forum for dissemination of research on numerical simulation of sheet metal forming processes. About 10 research presentations were given by Waterloo researchers, as well as a major trade show presence.

Professor Worswick, co-Director of the Forming and Crash Lab, has received the Auto/Steel Partnership (A/SP) Award of Excellence, recognizing the Lab’s extensive collaborative research with A/SP.

Premier Ford tours lab

During his visit to Waterloo region last Friday, Premier Doug Ford came to campus to see Professor Michael Worswick’s Waterloo Forming and Crash Lab and experience first hand one of the largest academic laboratories for such research.

The Ontario Advanced Manufacturing Consortium;(AMC), a joint partnership between McMaster University, University of Waterloo, and Western University, is helping to accelerate industry adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies, which will create jobs and strengthen the province’s reputation as a leading manufacturing region.

Since AMC was launched in April 2017, nearly 100 companies have benefited from the advanced manufacturing experts and state-of-the-art facilities at Waterloo.

Three of the top research-intensive and industrially collaborative universities in Ontario – McMaster University, University of Waterloo and Western University – received $35 million in funding over five years from the Government of Ontario today as part of a $50 million project aimed at combining existing strengths in the heart of Ontario’s manufacturing region to create an Advanced Manufacturing Consortium.

In Michael Worswick’s automotive research lab, metal and other materials are put to the test, to measure how much stress, tension, pressure and strain they can take.

A professor and Canada Research Chair in the University of Waterloo’s Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, Worswick leads a research team that punishes metal and other materials en route to a lighter, safer automobile.
