Consent to Add
- Purpose: Prevents students from being able to self-enrol or to swap into the course

Consent to Drop
- Purpose: Prevents students from being able to self-drop from the course
- Does it appear in the academic calendar: Yes
- Type of field: Choice selection = Department consent required, Instructor consent required, No consent required
By default, all courses require no consent to add or drop, unless either of the following two are approved:

Instructor consent
New courses require the proposer to indicate the type of consent needed for students to add/swap and drop a course (i.e., department consent required, instructor consent required, no consent required).
Notes:
- If the course requires consent to add, students will need to obtain approval via a Course Override Form or a permission number.
- Consent to drop is often reserved in scenarios where a drop would be detrimental to degree progression, for example, program requirements, two-part courses, etc., where a discussion with someone in the department is critical.
- "or by department/instructor consent" is not to be added to prerequisites; this is the default understanding since many academic units are open to the possibility for students outside the academic unit and/or faculty to take their courses [this is advertised to students in the Undergraduate Studies Academic Calendar].
