List of available requisite rules

Below is the list of rules that the University of Waterloo has programmed to use, by course requisite type. The rules appear below in the same order they appear on the Courses form (alphabetical order) under each rule type.

Prerequisites

Earned

  • When the course is only open to students enrolled in a single group (e.g., faculty, academic unit > as listed in Kuali CM).

    • More than one program/plan can be listed (must be in alphabetical order) and will automatically be listed as an "or" list.

    • Recommendation is to list as specific programs/plans where feasible as this leads to clarity for all stakeholders and more accurately matches the coding in Quest.

Free Form text

Used only when necessary (e.g., listing retired courses, WLU courses, grad courses).

When used, wording must be chosen from standard phrasing:

  • Must have completed the following: [list of courses with no spaces, no titles, not unit weights]
  • Must have completed at least # of the following: [list of courses]
  • Earned a minimum [name of major] average of #.0%
  • Enrolled in [list of programs/plans]

  • Fine Arts Woodshop Workshop Milestone
  • Undergraduate Communication Requirement Milestone
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Milestone

Tip: Normally this is a prerequisite, but in some scenarios (e.g., groupings of rules), it may need to be listed as a corequisite.
