From time to time, an academic unit may want to start offering a course that was previously retired.
At Waterloo, the way to achieve this outcome is to create a new course (essentially creating a copy of the course and making changes as applicable):
- It will have a different Quest ID number than the original.
- If the content is similar or identical and students who took the original course may still be around, adding the old course as an antirequisite is recommended.
- It will have a different subject code+number combination.
- Historically, changes to the course were made at the same time reactivations occurred; an institutional decision was made not to allow the same subject code+number combination to be reused.
- Information, like description and title, if stays the same, can be copied in the new course.
