New: Changes to abbreviated titles are now considered editorial

Friday, October 9, 2026

On October 5, 2026, Senate approved a motion allowing changes to undergraduate course abbreviated titles to be made editorially. This means that changes to a course's abbreviated title no longer require Senate Undergraduate Council approval and may instead be processed through the editorial workflow.

  • If an academic unit wants to update a course's abbreviated title and that is the sole change being made, the change can be submitted in Kuali via the Editorial workflow path.
  • If an abbreviated title is being updated because the course title is changing, the course proposal should include both changes and will continue to follow the governance workflow path.
  • The Approval vs. editorial web page has been updated accordingly.
  • Updated abbreviated titles must still comply with the abbreviated title conventions.
