Future students

You're welcome to join the Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology on Friday, May 17, for a seminar by Dr. Catherine Le Visage, Co-Director of Regenerative Medicine and Skeleton Laboratory at the University of Nantes, France. She will speak about recent bioinspired regenerative approaches that aim to address intervertebral disc degeneration and discogenic low back pain.

The Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy is pleased to host Umar Waqas, Director of Engineering Services for Energy+ Inc. on April 24.

Well before the Chemical Engineering Capstone Design Symposium took place in March, OleoTech was making the rounds, generating excitement and funding for the sorbent technology that they created for their fourth-year design project and developed into a startup venture.

For their Capstone project, students Sinclair K. Hidajat, Cassidy Molloy, Gene Shim, Zeinab Sidahmed and Timothy Yeung put their minds together to tackle a pervasive form of environmental pollution: contamination of water by the continuous low-concentration release of hydrocarbons into the environment through stormwater runoff.

Thirty-five teams of fourth-year Chemical Engineering students shared the results of their Capstone Design project with fellow classmates, faculty, family and friends at this year’s Capstone Design Symposium in Engineering 6 on March 11, 2019.

The Symposium was an exciting conclusion to the past two years they have spent researching and attempting to solve some of the challenges our world faces. Each team conceptualized and designed a solution to a problem of their choice.

Congratulations to the Department of Chemical Engineering’s Denise Mueller, for her recent recognition by the Waterloo Engineering Society as this term’s Friend of the Society.

As the department’s Undergraduate Advisor and Program Administrator, Denise works hard behind the scenes every day to make students’ lives easier. She is well-known for her extensive collection of inventive stress reducers and smile inducers – and her enthusiasm for helping students cope with the stresses of school.

Congrats to CHE 3MT Competitors

The Department of Chemical Engineering’s hosted its Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition on February 28th. The enthusiasm of the students – in the audience and at the podium – showed why this exciting event remains so popular.

Congratulations to the following people for their winning presentations:

  • First: Kiana Amini, for Redox Flow Batteries for Energy Storage Applications
  • Second: John Kong, for Smart Energy Systems: Developing Energy Infrastructure for the Future
  • Third: Prachi Panchal, for Photo-degradation of Epoxy Through Modified CNC
