A Waterloo Engineering researcher has received an E.W.R Steacie Memorial Fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for his work in developing new materials that make batteries and fuel cells smaller, lighter and longer lasting.
We are pleased to introduce Professor Evelyn Yim to the Department of Chemical Engineering. Her research interests include nanofabrication technologies and stem cell culture. Evelyn’s work on stem cells, nanofabrication and biomaterials supports the advancement of healthcare technologies to repair, replace or regenerate damaged tissue and organ structures.
The department of Chemical Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of David Simakov to our faculty. In his new role as assistant professor, he will teach reaction engineering and transport phenomena and continue his research in sustainable reaction engineering. David is a respected researcher, with publications in several leading journals, including Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Catalysis Science & Technology and Applied Catalysis. In addition to his role in Chemical Engineering, David will be actively engaged with the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) and the Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology.
“Significant Achievements in Polymer Devolatilization and Reactive Processing.” His research on numerous reactive systems using screw extruders was recognized with this award from the Extrusion Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) during the 2015 Annual Technical Conference (ANTEC) in Orlando, Florida.

Fisher Award that is presented to a Canadian resident by the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Alberta, Suncor Energy Foundation and Shell Canada Limited for major contributions in the field of systems and control engineering.
PhD student Drew Higgins has been named the recipient of the 2013 Electrochemical Society (ECS) Canadian Section Student Award for his research on nanostructured fuel cell and battery electrode materials, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Zhongwei Chen.
