Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Ralph Haas, Receives the Roy W. Crum Award
Civil & Environmental Engineering Distinguished Emeritus Professor, Ralph Haas, will be receiving the U.S. National Research Council's Transportation Research Board's oldest and most distinguished award, the Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award, at their January 2014 Annual Meeting which attracts over 12,000 participants every year. Prof. Haas will be the second Canadian to receive this award in the last 65 years.
PhD Student Mahsa Shayan Wins Prestigious Award
Mahsa Shayan attended the 11th Annual Groundwater GeoMontreal Conference held in Montreal on September 29th - October 3rd.

Department mourns the loss of Professor Khaled Soudki, PhD, PEng, FACI 1965 – 2013
Members of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering mourn the loss of their friend and colleague, Professor Khal Soudki, who passed away early in the morning on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.
Civil Engineering Grad Student Receives 2nd Place Award
Civil Engineering grad student, Dina Saad, has received a 2nd place award at the third annual Canadian Society for Civil Engineers (CSCE) conference held in Montreal.
The competition was judged by industry professionals based on 5-minute presentations and posters of students’ research. 38 graduate students participated in the competition from all over Canada and the winners were announced at the CSCE 2013 conference closing ceremony on Saturday June 1st.

Emily Peat, a current Civil Engineering undergrad & owner of EcoPlace Organics (who is a former BET 300 student, former E Co-op student) took home the top prize last night (March 26th) at the Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards held in Ottawa!

UW Civil Engineering Student Receives Gates Cambridge Scholarship
A Civil Engineering grad (BASc 2013) has recently received one of the most prestigious international scholarships available. Musa Chunge was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship where he will be pursuing an MPhil in Engineering.
There was intense competition for the awards with over 3500 applicants and 51 scholarships offered. The selection criteria consist of:
Environmental engineering students take first place at WERC
A team of four environmental engineering students took first place in Task 3 at the 22nd Annual International Environmental Design Contest hosted by the WERC Consortium and the Institute for Energy and the Environment at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
