Raised in a one-room house in a remote Indian village, CEE student Pampa Dey, will receive her doctorate in engineering at convocation this year.
Beating the cold has taken on new meaning for University of Waterloo researchers who are working to help Canadian wastewater treatment plants become more environmentally sustainable.
One of the research group’s projects involves a problem at a plant in the southern Ontario community of Keswick that is subject to stringent discharge limits.
The Fred Burggraf Award was established in 1966 to stimulate and encourage young researchers to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of transportation. It provides recognition of excellence in transportation research by researchers 35 years of age or younger whose papers have been published under the sponsorship of any Division A Standing Group.
Prof. Ralph Haas has been awarded the World Conference on Pavement and Asset Management (WCPAM) Award for 2017, at the conference held recently in Italy.
He was recognized for his pioneering research and development of innovative technologies for managing road networks, his contribution in the fields of pavement engineering, and his sustained excellence in education as Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Civil Engineering department at the University of Waterloo.

After a thorough review of annual reports from 26 student chapters by the Student Affairs committee, CEGES was awarded the top position amidst very keen competition.
The committee travelled to the CSCE Conference in Vancouver, to accept the award in person, and share their experiences with other chapter leaders.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Susan Tighe as Deputy Provost, Integrated Planning and Budgeting and Professor Diana Parry as Associate Vice-President, Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion, for two-year terms commencing 1 July 2017," wrote Vice-President, Academic & Provost Ian Orchard in a memo circulated to campus on Tuesday.
We are proud to announce that Kayleanna Giesinger, a 2A environmental engineering student, won a shared first place in the student poster competition at the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA) 2017 conference.
Dr. Carl Haas, a Civil & Environmental Engineering professor at UW, was recently invited to an interview with CBC, on the role of robotics in large-scale construction. Along with 3D machine vision and modelling, and construction engineering, robotics is one of Prof. Haas' areas of research.
