Environment and Resource Studies Student Association (ERSSA) is planning to welcome new Environment and Resource Studies (ERS) students at the annual "Welcome Weekend," held September 23-25, 2011.

We are delighted to congratulate Environment and Resource Studies (ERS) master's student Heather Davis, whose contribution was selected as one of the winning oral presentations at this year's Graduate Student Research Conference at the University of Waterloo. Her presentation, entitled, "Advancing triple-bottom-line Community Economic Development (CED) in municipal planning," took place on Tuesday, 26 April.

Paul Kay - Toronto Star

Environment and Resource Studies (ERS) professor Paul Kay – currently on sabbatical and a visiting professor at the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem – has his work on the importance of water conservation cited in a recent article in the Toronto Star.

Jason Thistlethwaite – PhD student in Global Governance at the University of Waterloo – has just won the Environmental Studies Section’s Graduate Student Paper Award at the International Studies Association Annual Convention 2011 (March 2011, Montreal, Quebec). Jason's paper was entitled "The Climate Wise Principles: An Emerging Climate Change Risk Regime." Jason has taught ENVS 220 (Environmental Economics) in the Faculty of Environment, and Prof. Jennifer Clapp (Environmental and Resource Studies) serves on his advisory committee.

Eric Mallia – a second year Master of Environmental Studies (MES) student in Environmental and Resource Studies (ERS) – won the award for best poster at the University of Waterloo's 3rd Annual Student Colloquium on Climate Change. Held on 10 and 11 March 2011, Eric's poster was entitled "Exploring Home Electricity Management Strategies as a Climate Change Mitigation Option."
