Each year, the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs recognize and celebrate the teaching development efforts of a Waterloo graduate student with the Certificate in University Teaching (CUT) Award. We’re excited to announce that the 2018 CUT Award has been awarded to Caitlin Scott from the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability.

The School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability is pleased to share Professor Jennifer Clapp is the recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Environmental Studies Section of the International Studies Association. The award recognizes outstanding scholars whose long history of excellent research and teaching has had substantial impact on fields associated with international relations and environmental issues.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Emily Ruston Mann, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Environment. Our condolences go out to her family and partner.

SERS alumnus Dominique Souris named as one of the Real Leaders magazine’s Top 100 Visionary Leaders 2018.

It has always been a dream of mine to attend a United Nations conference as I was intrigued with how such vast number of professionals from various disciplines come together to create impactful decisions.

As part of their thematic group project, ERS 316 students had the option of incorporating a charitable activity. They researched their themes’ key issues, identified and evaluated a local or international charity working on those water issues, and then created and undertook a fundraising effort to generate a donation to their charity of choice.

It was an absolutely beautiful day as the students of ERS 265 — Social and Environmental History of Water — paddled down the Grand River.

SERS is pleased to welcome Christine Barbeau as the new lecturer in the school starting September 1st.

Christine will be teaching 5-6 undergraduate courses throughout the year with her focus on teaching three spring block field courses within the school.

Congratulations to SERS PhD graduate Dr. Marie Claire Brisbois! Marie Claire won a prestigious Banting Fellowship, which she will hold at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Her project is titled "Shifting political power: the nature, mechanisms and consequences of distributed renewable energy transitions".

Director of the Environment and Business program, Jennifer Lynes and associate professor in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, Sarah Wolfe collaborated on a commentary published in today's Globe and Mail. In the piece, Lynes and Wolfe call on businesses, startups, NGOs and policymakers to avoid the pitfalls that lead to ineffective communication about the important issues of climate change and sustainability.
