Isabel Jorgensen, PhD candidate in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, has been awarded a prestigious $25,000 P.E.O. Scholar Award.
The P.E.O. Sisterhood established the award in 1991 to recognize and support women in the United States and Canada who are pursuing a doctoral-level degree. Award recipients like Isabel are a select group of women chosen for their high level of academic achievement and their potential for having a positive impact on society.
Isabel is in her third year of her doctoral program. Her research examines the social and ecological challenges affecting desert lakes in the American West, ranging from migratory bird declines to inequitable economic arrangements.
“I am incredibly honoured to receive this recognition and opportunity from P.E.O.” she says. “With this award, I can dedicate my full attention to elevating my research impact through improved publications and outreach. I am grateful and excited for the coming year!”
Isabel is one of 100 doctoral students across North America selected to receive the award this year. She was sponsored by Chapter Q of Burlington/Oakville. Congratulations Isabel!
