Public German Studies, which is an open access research webspace and open educational material repository for German Studies has launched. The site, developed by James Skidmore, Associate Professor and Director of the Waterloo Centre for German Studies at the University of Waterloo, is an exploration of how open education would work in a humanities/liberal arts field. It was one of several projects by Open Education Fellows funded by eCampus Ontario.
It is a work in progress. In March 2019 they published a working site and populated the open education side with material from Professor Skidmore's courses that was previously hidden behind the wall of the university’s learning management system. Over the summer of 2019 they will be building out the open access research side as well as laying the groundwork for an open access journal to appear in 2020.
