With the global aviation industry facing challenges related to COVID-19, Suzanne Kearns an associate professor of aviation in the Faculty of Environment caught up with International Civil Aviation Organization as part of their Women in Aviation video series. Kearns shares concrete examples on how technology can help fill the diversity gap. She also discusses how a more sustainable aviation sector can be achieved amidst challenges created by the pandemic.

You know her as a researcher in Geography and Environmental Management, a Canada Research Chair and now Sarah Burch is the newest memeber of the Faculty of Environment to join Canada's Clean 50.

Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Management Dr. Derek Robinson became a Fellow of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (iEMSs) this week. Receiving the Society's Medal for research excellence and service to the Society, Dr. Robinson joins an elite group of recipients since the award commenced in 2001.

Dr. Susan Elliott has been mentioned in today's Daily Bulletin, in recognition for her work with the Allergy, Genes and Enviroment (AllerGen) research group. The group recently published a study, Surveying Prevalence of Food Allergy in All Canadian Environments: SPAACE to SPAACEwhich included the largest nation survey to date on food allergies.

Congratulations to incoming 1st year students Andrew Ding (Geomatics, 2nd from left), and Ben Woodward (Geography & Environmental Management, 2nd from right) who recently brought home multiple medals from The International Geography Olympiad in Hong Kong. 

The Centre for Extended Learning announced that the online course GEOG 181 – Designing Effective Maps – has won the 2018 Award for Excellence In Online Course Design.The centre noted that the course “is a great example of how straightforward, but solid, course design can result in a positive online learning experience for students.” Students who have taken the course noted its well-organized structure, and the “relevant, interesting assignments that connected directly back to course

Team Salinity, a group of students and recent graduates from the Faculty of Environment, developed SongSAT as a tool to express the beauty of satellite imagery through sound. Beyond the remarkable audio experience of the music that this creates, the software provides an opportunity for the beauty of satellite imagery to communicate to an audience with visual impairments, providing them with an opportunity to appreciate the wonders of the world from above.
