Congratulations to Sarah Burch for receiving a prestigious SSHRC Partnership Grant entitled "TRANSFORM: Accelerating sustainability entrepreneurship experiments in local spaces,”. Sarah is an Associate professor in GEM and a Canada Research Chair in Sustainability Governance and Innovation.
Sarah Burch, a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Sustainability Governance and Innovation, has been named a Recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 TM for 2018. Burch’s research focuses on governing responses to climate change (both adaptation and mitigation) in urban spaces. She also explores triggers of transitions toward more sustainable development pathways. Currently, her work has focused on acknowledging the contributions towards sustainability made by small and medium businesses, and how to radically transform organizations to be significantly more sustainable.

On Monday, May 14th, a group of GEM and ERS students headed out to Nepal, as part of a 22-day course field trip to the Kathmandu and Everest regions.
Global tourism accounts for 8% of total worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, four times more than previously believed, new research says.
Some gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, trap heat in the atmosphere, producing a "greenhouse effect," and so make the planet warmer. The amount of greenhouse gases released by a particular activity is referred to as its "carbon footprint."
