Student Representative (Project Review Committee)

Student Representatives on the Project Review Committee are responsible for:

  • Reviewing project applications and recommending the amount of funding to be provided to each applicant

There are twelve graduate students on this committee (two from each faculty). The Project Review Committee normally meets once or twice per semester for 2-3 hours (either in-person or online). Outside of the meeting, Reviewers tends to spend 5-10 minutes on smaller applications and 30-60 minutes on larger applications.

You can learn more about our current representatives on the Our People page.

If you have any questions or wish to know more, email the Coordinator at gsef@uwaterloo.ca.

I was interested in volunteering with the grad student community, and remembered the positive impact the GSEF volunteers had on me at the graduate orientation.  Several months later when I saw they had an opening for a science rep on the Project Review Committee, I thought it was a good opportunity to represent fellow science grads by providing my perspective through systematically analyzing incoming proposals and weighting their merit based on the parameters of the endowment fund in order to distribute funds within the budget.  To my surprise, after having served on the committee for two years, I am far better prepared to anticipate what reviewers are looking for and therefore better tooled to submit stronger proposals wherever life takes me. - Project Review Committee Member from the Faculty of Science (2018-2020)
