In partnership with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs Office (GSPA), GSEF funds projects and initiatives that support graduate students across campus. These initiatives range from infrastructure improvements, scholarships and bursaries, as well as professional and academic development opportunities.
Graduate Student Research Dissemination Award
The GSRDA is funded through support from GSPA and GSEF.
Awards are available to Waterloo graduate students who are presenting their own research (oral, poster, paper) at an academic conference.
Professional Skills Foundation
Professional Skills Foundations is a new professional skills credential for graduate students at the University of Waterloo.
Foundations is designed to offer master's and doctoral students broad exposure to and experience in career preparation, communication, leadership and personal effectiveness.
Graduate House Patio
In collaboration with the GPSA and GSA, GSEF contributed $10,000 in Spring 2020 to improve the Graduate House Patio which can be used by all UW graduate students.
Student Life Centre Graduate Space
In collaboration with the GSA, GSEF provided $4,000 to provide furniture to the graduate student space in the Student Life Centre (SLC) expansion.
GRADflix
In collaboration with the GSPA, GSEF contributes $5,000 annually Spring 2021 to provide financial backing to support GSPA in organizing workshops, events and resources for graduate students to engage in communication and research dissemination opportunities at the University of Waterloo (e.g. GRADflix).

GSA Equity Scholarship
In collaboration with the GSA and GSPA, in 2023/2024 GSEF contributed $10,000 towards the “Graduate Award for Black and Indigenous Students” to increase accessibility to education for Black and Indigenous students who are currently underrepresented in graduate programs at the University of Waterloo.

Graduate Orientation
In collaboration with the GSA, each year, GSEF supports the GSA by subsidizing graduation orientation by $5000.
