Fabrication of Diamond Based Fabry-Perot Cavities: Boring is beautiful
Madelaine Liddy, IQC
Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are promising candidates for acting as the nodes in a quantum network. Previous work has demonstrated the entanglement between two NV centers over a distance of 1.3km for the loophole-free bell test in 2015. Fabrication of diamond membranes with NV centers placed in a Fabry-Perot cavity holds promise for further improvement on this entanglement scheme by increasing the occurrence of entanglement events by three orders of magnitude. This talk will explain the potential for NV centers as the building blocks for a quantum internet and describe how this could be realized in a diamond based Fabry-Perot cavity at low-temperature.
