In collaboration with the Laflamme family, the University of Waterloo and the Institute for Quantum Computing will celebrate the life and legacy of Raymond Laflamme on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Raymond was known first and foremost for his warmth, generosity, adventurous spirit, and keen sense of humour. His gift for connection reached across boundaries, bringing together not only those in quantum but also friends, collaborators, partners, and community members from far beyond the field.

Through his leadership as founding executive director of the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) from its inception in 2002 to 2017, Raymond built IQC into a world-class research hub and positioned Canada at the forefront of the quantum revolution. A trailblazer in quantum information research, he inspired and united people from all walks of life, making an indelible mark both on the global stage and in the hearts of those around him.

The Celebration of Life will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. A book of condolences will be available at the event.
