Program details
The graduate diploma in data analytics will equip students with the tools to analyze data in order to increase organizations’ efficiency and profitability. The diploma’s academic and institutional objectives are twofold:
- Offer graduate-level professional education in the emerging area of data analytics to professionals at all levels of organizations and across different industries, as well as students who are eager to deepen their analytics skills
- Provide a rigorous foundation for students who plan to do applied research in data analytics
Students will learn to use data analytics to benefit organizations at all stages in their lifecycle, including:
- Explaining what has happened with descriptive analytics
- Foreseeing future scenarios with predictive analytics
- Designing best policies with prescriptive analytics

This is an on-campus program. Some materials may be delivered online.
This coursework professional diploma program is completed in 2 terms (8 months), longer if completed as a part time student.
Degree requirements
Students must successfully complete:
- Graduate Academic Integrity Module (Graduate AIM)
- The following four (4) courses:
- MSE 623 Big Data Analytics
- MSE 718 Statistical Methods for Data Analytics
- MSE 719 Operations Analytics
- 1 pre-approved elective course
List of pre-approved elective courses:
- MSE 603 Principles of Operations Research
- MSE 605 Organizational Behaviour
- MSE 607 Applied Economics for Management
- MSE 609 Quantitative Data Analysis for Management Sciences
- MSE 641 Text Analytics
- An alternate elective course pre-approved by the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies
Students must maintain an overall average of at least 73% at the end of each term, with no more than 2 failed courses overall.
