Forty-nine Management Engineers were conferred their degrees at last Saturday’s convocation. Two students from the 2017 Management Engineering graduating class were also honoured with two of the faculty’s most prestigious awards for undergraduate students.
Anne Dawson was awarded the Alumni Gold Medal, which is given to one graduating student from each faculty. In the case of Engineering, this award is based on both outstanding academic performance and contributions to the faculty.
Anne is well deserving of this award. She has consistently been on the Dean’s Honour List and earned a number of other academic awards and scholarships, including the First in Class Engineering Scholarship, the Sanford Fleming Foundation Award for Best Work Term Report, and the Dematic Scholarship for Excellence in Supply Chain Optimization. In addition to maintaining a strong academic performance, Anne has performed research as an Undergraduate Research Assistantship and actively contributed to a number of outreach and recruitment programs and events, including Women in Engineering, Engineering Ambassadors, and UW’s IISE student chapter.
Hannah Gautreau, from the same class, was awarded the Roy Duxbury Leadership Award, given to one graduating Engineering student each year, based on demonstration of "outstanding leadership throughout their academic career in activities that relate to engineering education."
Hannah’s record of leadership is outstanding, having held a very long list of significant and diverse leadership positions, including as President of the Waterloo Engineering Society, Team Lead of Engineering Ambassadors, and member of the FEDS Engineering Orientation Committee, where she planned and executed the orientation week program for over 1600 first year engineering students. All the while, she maintained a strong and consistent academic record, and was commended by her professors for her helpfulness, hard work, and organizational skills.
Congratulations Anne, Hannah, and all of the 2017 Management Engineering class!
