Biography

Peter Carr is a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Managements Sciences. His interests focus on the use of technology in business and society and include technology innovation and entrepreneurship, the strategic management of technology, project management, the use of social media to improve business performance, technology in developing countries, the social impact of information technology and online learning.

He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business where he teaches masters courses in Operations and Supply Chain Management and Project Management.

He is also the author and instructor for the University of Waterloo Co-op professional development course, PD5, Project Management which is studied by over 2,000 students each year. He is a member of the Faculty of Engineering WatPDEng committee, which manages co-op professional development training for engineering students.

Peter is the Program Director and author of the course materials for the Digital Transformation Certificate, which is offered online by Watspeed.

Peter also works on the use of technology in developing countries. Most recently this has included the creation of the Technology Enabled Education Resource Library, with Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi and previously in over 20 projects with NetHope and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He was the Technical Editor of the book “PMP Professional Study Guide, 3rd edition” by Joseph Phillips (McGraw Hill, 2009). He has taught Project Management and Operations Management courses internationally, and has been featured in case studies by Microsoft and Blackberry. He has created two project management based online simulations and a simulation on digital transformation. He recently completed work on a report on digital transformation in the manufacturing sector in Canada.

Peter's PhD is in the lean transformation of traditional manufacturing organisations and was completed at Cranfield University in the UK. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, he was Executive Director of the Centre for Innovative Management at Athabasca University and has strong industrial experience.
