UWAFT Talks is an industry and networking event joined by industry leader, FleetCarma (a division of GeoTab), for a discussion on the emerging areas of automotive technology and sustainability, the diverse automotive ecosystem that exists here in Waterloo, and opportunities for local students to gain job and volunteer experience in this exciting and innovative industry!

Have you ever wanted to join a hackathon, but thought it was only for coders? Well, Hack the Plastics wants you! Hack the Plastics is a broad skilled hackathon that does not require a coding based final product and will happen from 28th Feb – 1st March, 2020 at the University of Waterloo. You will be tackling ways to fight single use plastic pollution using microbes and producing a technical solution, business plan, and pitch.

UPDATE: The Mechatronics Engineering Capstone Design Symposium will not be run as a physical event this year.

In order to mitigate the risks associated with the possible spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the format of the Faculty of Engineering’s Capstone Design Symposia are being modified on a department by department basis. Students are asked to connect directly with their Capstone coordinator for the most current updates.

External guests have been asked not to visit campus and are encouraged to instead check out the 2020 project abstracts and photos from previous events.

We encourage everyone on campus to take preventive measures such as avoiding shaking hands and touching your face along with frequent and thorough handwashing as outlined by Health Canada. 

The Post-COVID-19 Reboot is a weekly webinar series hosted by the University of Waterloo GEDI that brings together research experts and representatives from some of Canada’s leading corporations and startups to discuss strategies for emerging from the pandemic and adapting to this “new normal.” Join us on June 18 for "Rebooting with Research: Viral detection and mitigation". This third and final research-focused webinar considers what our virtual future may look like. Join the Water Institute for an interactive event exploring what water means to different people, its true value, and how we can better protect this vital resource together.

Digital twins and augmented reality can be used for simulating physical objects and processes. This can be especially helpful for improving their design to better ensure the dependability of infrastructure and operations where lives might be at stake. With the use of such digital realities, one can also create a competitive edge to improve efficiency and advance capabilities.
