What can you do with a degree in Mechanical Engineering?

An applied science degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering provides several versatile career paths. University of Waterloo graduates often pursue careers in automation, automotive aerospace, and forensics.

What can you do with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering?

Mechatronics engineering is the design of computer-controlled electromechanical systems. The essence of it is that the design of the mechanical system must be performed together with the design of the electrical/electronic and computer control aspects that together, comprise a complete system.

  • Volta Technique - Co-owned by UWaterloo alumnus Kamyar Rouindej, PhD., Volta Technique was named one of 2021's top 11 energy startups in Waterloo. UWaterloo alumna and associate research director of the Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing (MSAM) Lab

Dr. Vlasea was recognized by a leading industry association as one of the 20 most influential academics in smart manufacturing. She specializes in  metal additive manufacturing (AM), a.k.a 3D printing. Dr. Vlasea’s research focuses on innovative design, process optimization and adoption of new materials for powder bed fusion and binder jetting additive manufacturing processes. Martine McGregor

Martine McGregor

PhD student in MME, McGregor was awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) PGS Scholarship in May of 2020. The scholarship allowed McGregor to fund her research, which focuses on spinal implant fixation and loosening. McGregor currently works in collaboration with the Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing Laboratory Group, and has collaborated with manufacturing experts and clinicians in the field.
