Congratulations to alum Martin Basiri (MASc ‘13, mechanical and mechatronics engineering), who has been named on Maclean’s 2024 Power List in Tech as CEO and founder of Passage and co-founder and former CEO of ApplyBoard.
In 2015, Basiri and his brothers launched ApplyBoard, an international student recruitment platform that helps students worldwide apply to schools in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. The company earned triple-unicorn status in its last funding round in 2021, with a US$3.2 billion valuation.
In 2023, Basiri launched his new venture, Passage, which helps remove financial barriers for students in fields like STEM and health care with a platform that connects students with grant and funding opportunities. Giving these resources to international students can help Canada to address labour shortages in critical industries. The platform is already launching a project in 2024 to help bring 100 women from Afghanistan to pursue STEM in Canada.
Congratulations, Martin, on your continued success!
