MME professor recognized for contributions to road safety

Dr. Duane Cronin has received a Safety Engineering Excellence Award from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the 28th International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety Vehicles (ESV) in Toronto on May 12, 2026, for his commitment to advancing road safety.  

Duane holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Trauma Biomechanics and Injury Prevention, where his research spans impact mechanics, trauma biomechanics, occupant safety simulation, and multi-material lightweight vehicles, with a focus on protecting vulnerable populations in vehicle collisions. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.   

He has even served on international groups, including NATO task groups and as a board member of the International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury (IRCOBI), due to his expertise. Learn more about his contributions in Prof recognized for contributions to road safety in Engineering News.
