Our Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing (MSAM) Lab has continued to lead innovation in sustainable 3D printing technologies for industries worldwide. To recognize its success, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) announced an investment of $5 million in the lab.
Announced by the Honourable Ruby Sahota the funding will support the launch of the Consortium for Sustainable Scale-up in Metal Additive Manufacturing (CSS-MAM).
Co-directors Dr. Ehsan Toyserkani and Dr. Mihaela Vlasea will lead the CSS-MAM and will build on MSAM’s incredible accomplisments. The consortium will focus on the following areas: accelerating the growth of partner industry production and training and clean economic growth.
The MSAM Lab is committed to making the world a better place by innovating technologies for both small and large-scale additive manufacturing while promoting the use of environmentally friendly materials and looking for ways to reduce waste and consumption in the context of additive manufacturing.
The funding will also help create in-person and online advanced industry training programs. The courses will focus on upskilling to address the need for skilled engineers in the Canadian workforce because of the demand for professionals in the additive manufacturing sector.
