Recent graduate honoured for sustainability leadership and joins Schwarzman Scholars program

Portrait of Jordan Lin

Jordan Lin (BASc ‘22, mechanical engineering) had a goal in mind and was determined to pursue it. During his undergrad, Lin was a research associate for Access to Energy Institute (A2EI), a non-profit institution during his co-op term. This experience sparked his interest in sustainability – a journey he had yet to realize he would continue.

In his fourth year of undergrad, Lin co-founded Reimagine17, which is a national non-profit organization whose purpose is to help and encourage youths across from Canada to contribute to sustainability. After three years, the organization generated $150,000 and impacted the lives of 24 youths, providing them with compensated roles that allow them to expand their understanding and engage further in sustainable practices and initiatives. He describes the experience as having “taught me that leadership extends beyond generating ideas”.

Currently, he is a sustainability consultant at Arup, an engineering firm that’s dedicated to reducing the impact of climate change on society. He stated that “Our institutions provide incredible research, development, and demonstration grounds for these new technologies and methods.”. He continues this path to advance sustainability in Canada. These combined efforts earned him a seat in the Top 30 under 30 Sustainability Leaders in Canada.

Furthermore, he was selected to be a part of the Schwarzman Scholars program, a highly prestigious university that only allows 150 students to participate globally. It is an exceptional opportunity for Lin to improve his leadership skills to tackle the continuous environmental and climate challenges.
