Noon Hour Concert: To Our Great Joy

Wednesday, September 28, 2022 12:30 pm - 12:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

‘To our great joy, the town fills apace, and shops begin to be open again. Pray God continue the plague’s decrease!’

~Samuel Pepys, Sunday 31 December 1665

The Cardinal Consort of Viols returns to Conrad Grebel with ‘To Our Great Joy’, a concert of music by 16th and 17th century composers who were living witnesses to plague and pestilence. The consort will perform fantasias and dances by William Byrd, John Dowland, Orlando Gibbons, and Claudia Rusca, who all survived plagues, as well as music by Carlo Farina, who wasn't so lucky. The magical sounds of the viol consort will soothe the soul and stir the spirit of the plague-weary, just as it did so many centuries ago.

Members of Cardinal Consort

  • Sheila Smyth, treble viol
  • Linda Deshman, tenor viol
  • Sara Blake, bass viol
  • Valerie Sylvester, bass viol

Please Note: All concerts in the Noon Hour Concert Series for 2022-2023 will be offered in person and free to the public.
