The UWaterloo Jazz Ensemble will perform a selection of jazz classics, embracing the music of Neal Hefti, Joe Zawinel, Jim McGrath and more.... 

 The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Michael Wood, a well-known vibist who performed at the Stratford Festival for many years.

The UWaterloo Balinese Gamelan Ensemble will be appearing at the KULTRÚN FESTIVAL on Saturday, July 8, at 2:00pm on the main stage by the Clock Tower.  Join us at this wonderful FREE international festival in Victoria Park.

University Choir Concert: Island Music

On July 15th the University of Waterloo presents a special program of exploration, history, and collaboration through music. “Islands” brings story and song from some of the world’s most fascinating island communities. Hawaii, New Zealand, Cuba, and Jamaica are real islands with unique and interrelated musical cultures featuring popular and beloved music. We will also be weaving a Canadian island song into our concert. The concert will also feature the “premiere” of the UW Choir’s first music video produced this summer by the choir members themselves.

Nominated in 2014 for “Best Percussion Ensemble” by DRUM! Magazine, Duo Percussion is a professional percussion pairing known for their eclectic and high-energy performances. Founded by Brennan Connolly and Dave Robilliard, Duo Percussion is dedicated to expanding the percussion duo repertoire and attracting new audiences by performing diverse and entertaining programs of classical and contemporary percussion music.

Noon Hour Concert: Bach Suites, Chimera

Elinor Frey celebrates J. S. Bach’s Suites for unaccompanied cello with a performance of his dark and introspective Suite No. 5 in C Minor (BWV 1011), alongside the complex, nuanced nobility of Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major (BWV 1010). Between these two pillars of the cello repertoire, Ms. Frey performs a newly commissioned works “Chimera” (2017) by the innovative American composer Ken Ueno.

Noon Hour Concert: Autorickshaw

Autorickshaw’s music lies on the cultural cutting edge, as contemporary jazz, funk and folk easily rub shoulders with the classical and popular music of India. Formed in 2003, Autorickshaw is one of the most intriguing acts on the world music and jazz landscapes, garnering 2004 and 2007 JUNO nominations for World Music Album of the Year, winning a Canadian Independent Music Award in 2005, and a John Lennon Songwriting Competition Grand Prize in World Music and the CAPACOA Touring Artist of the Year award, both in 2008.
