On the island of Bali, Indonesia there is a plethora of musical ensembles called gamelan, the local term for a set of instruments made primarily of bronze or bamboo. The UWaterloo Department of Music at Conrad Grebel University College is home to a gamelan semara dana consisting of bronze gongs and metallophones, drums, and bamboo flutes.

The University of Waterloo Chamber Choir explores themes and music from across the ages, including works by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Ola Gjeilo, and John Tavener.

Please join the UW Chamber Choir at 4:15 on Tuesday November 29 in the Atrium for a short CD release event. There will be food and drink provided and the Chamber Choir will perform a short selection of pieces from their current repertoire. Please come and join in recognizing the work of these students.
If you would like a copy of A New Song, they will be on sale during the event for $15.
The University Choir will be performing two of the most famous works in the choral literature, namely The Symphony of Psalms by Stravinsky and Bach's Magnificat. Composed for the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Stravinsky created a symphony-choral work unlike any of its predecessors. He chose the Latin (Vulgate) versions of Psalms 38, 39, and 150. When asked about the Symphony of Psalms, Stravinsky said:

Four different instrumental chamber trios will perform a selection of music from Mozart, Glick, Bach, Ibert, Handel, and Tartini. Free admission, with refreshments to follow.

Three different student chamber music groups will perform pieces by Handel, Koechlin, and other composers. Free admission, reception to follow.
The well-known Ménage à Six String Sextet from Toronto will be playing the Korngold String Sextet. Although primarily known as a film composer, Erich Korngold also wrote many classical pieces.
