The University of Waterloo Department of Music presents a Music Symposium to all students (current and prospective), staff, faculty and members of the community. The department has invited Dr. Joshua D. Pilzer and Dr. Trichy Sankaran to give a keynote presentation and a lecture demonstration.

This is an opportunity to attend various open events including classes, rehearsals and student performances.

Please join the UW Chamber Choir at 4:15 on Tuesday November 29 in the Atrium for a short CD release event.  There will be food and drink provided and the Chamber Choir will perform a short selection of pieces from their current repertoire.  Please come and join in recognizing the work of these students.

Today, Scotland’s patron saint, Andrew the Apostle, anchors Scottish national identity in an annual holiday on his feast day. But in the century leading up to the Scottish declaration of independence, the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath, Saint Andrew’s significance expanded from that of a local saint to become the central figure in the foundation of Christianized Scotland. This lecture will feature the performance of medieval liturgical music made at the Cathedral of St Andrews to celebrate Saint Andrew’s relics, showing how liturgical music shaped history.
